Orthopedic Impairments are characterized by an impairment of movement, speech, vision, and/or muscle use.  According to IDEA, an orthopedic impairment is any severe orthopedic impairment that adversely affects a child’s educational performance.  It includes impairments caused by a congenital anomaly (clubfoot, absence of some member, etc.), disease (poliomyelitis, bone tuberculosis, etc.), and impairments from other causes (cerebral palsy, amputations, and fractures or burns that cause contractures).
